Kefi Greek Bistro: Explore Greek cuisine in Lisbon

Kefi Greek Bistro

Last year, after walking past Kefi Greek Bistro at least fifty times, we finally stopped there for dinner, and what a great idea we had! It’s now one of my favorite restaurants in Lisbon. We’ve been back a dozen times, and I’ve never been disappointed! We even celebrated my dad’s birthday and Valentine’s Day there!

Kefi Greek Bistro is a Greek restaurant, as the name suggests. At first, I didn’t really have any expectations of Greek cuisine, as I didn’t really know much about it apart from feta, tzatziki, and moussaka, but I discovered new flavors and a new way of eating that I recommend you try!

First, you enter a place where the decoration is warm and cozy: an olive tree greets you at the entrance, the tables open onto large windows, and all the decorative objects look as if they have come straight from Greece. Stone walls, fresh flowers, and soft light offer a Mediterranean atmosphere that invites you to relax and enjoy the moment. The space and the tables are comfortable, and the service is quick, friendly, and smiling. Staff speak both English and Portuguese.

I recommend that you book a table in advance, as they never have any places available on the day.

A taste of Greece on your plate

When you discover the menu, you have the choice between small plates to share (mezze) or individual plates.

My favorite dish is the grilled octopus served with a parsnip purée and tomato sauce. But I also love the spanakopita, a tart with brick pastry, spinach, and feta cheese. Ben always chooses the pork souvlaki, a classic from Greece. It is a pork skewer served with roasted cherry tomatoes, a bell pepper puree, a pita, and fries. You can also have salmon and chicken souvlaki.

The tzatziki and the Greek salad are also tasty (as well as being healthy!)… I’m pretty sure you can order any dish on the menu and you’ll love it! Also, let’s talk about desserts! I discovered a dessert I simply LOVE: portokalopita. I even learned to make it at home so I don’t have to go back to Kefi every week 😄. It was a real discovery, an assembly of simple products that make a delicious dessert. Portokalopita is a type of cake made with brick pastry, olive oil, and orange. It is served with a spoon of Greek yogurt and cinnamon, absolutely divine! Ben also loves the traditional loukemades, which are bite-sized donuts topped with pistachios and chocolate. We still have to try the chocolate cake… A good excuse to go back again!

A place where I feel at home

The waiters are always so kind! We had dinner in Kefi for my dad’s birthday last year. Without asking them in advance, they offered him a small gift and a candle on his dessert. Then we went back for Valentine’s Day, they offered a glass of champagne and a lovely gift. In summer we were also offered 2 slices of watermelon, how cute! I don’t know any other place in Lisbon where the staff is genuinely kind and thoughtful like they are in Kefi! Please, note that pets are welcome 🙂

And the other good surprise was the bill! Today it can be difficult to find a good restaurant offering affordable prices in central Lisbon. Last time we went to Kefi we paid 52€ (including a 5% tip) for 2 people.
